Faversham Linen Services, established in 1897, provides linen hire and laundry services to hotels and restaurants of all sizes across Kent, Surrey, Sussex, and south London.

Following a significant fire that destroyed the historic Victorian laundry building along with its modern extension, the whole site complete reconstruction.

JP Bedfords Surveyors were appointed by the owners to manage every stage of the reinstatement. Their responsibilities included full demolition and site clearance, in-house architectural design for the new facility, preparation of detailed specifications, tendering, and comprehensive contract administration through to completion.

Planning requirements meant the new building needed strong architectural merit. JP Bedfords designed a contemporary structure featuring colour-graded metal cladding and contrasting materials such as cedar panels to break up the elevations and enhance visual interest.

Because the fire had destroyed all laundry plant and machinery, much of which needed to be specially manufactured in Germany, the project was driven by an exceptionally tight schedule. Once the building design was agreed, the machinery was ordered immediately, and the construction programme had to align precisely with its delivery. Despite these constraints, the project was completed on time and within budget. Faversham Linen Services were able to resume trading within just 14 months of the fire.
