Contract Administration & Project Monitoring

UWC Atlantic College in South Wales suffered severe fire damage to one of its student accommodation blocks, destroying the top two floors, the shingle roof, and all internal services.

Students had to be rehoused in temporary on-site units, making swift reinstatement essential to limit ongoing hire costs.

JP Bedfords were appointed to manage the full reinstatement. They immediately assessed structural integrity, organised complete strip-out, and implemented protection works. Engineers were then instructed to review exposed steelwork, and a detailed specification was prepared before appointing specialist contractors from JP Bedfords’ approved network.
Working closely with Building Control and the Planning Department, JP Bedfords secured approvals for works to begin in late September. Although initial timelines projected completion in the spring, proactive site management and close contractor coordination enabled JP Bedfords to deliver the project before Christmas. This early handover reduced disruption for the College’s international students and resulted in significant cost savings for insurers.
