Appointed to manage the reinstatement of a converted church following a catastrophic fire incident. As a result of the fire incident, the roof structure and covering to the front half of the property along with the internal fit out was completely destroyed.

Prior to our involvement, the Local Authority had served a section 78 (Dangerous Structure) notice on the property. Our initial brief was to procure the required emergency and making safe works, before preparing the detailed design drawings and specifications for the reinstatement works.

A timber specialist was commissioned to design and handcraft the new Oak Trusses to replicate the original, whilst ensuring compliance with current Building Regulations.

The property lies within a Conservation Area; therefore the repair work had to be sympathetic, using the same materials as before to preserve the area and enhance the history of the building.

Our client took this opportunity to convert the roof space into several bedrooms & bathrooms. As the property was situated in a Conservation Area, the proposed loft conversion required Planning Permission. The main challenge here was preparing a design that satisfied our clients brief whilst ensuring no significant harm was caused to the historic and architectural character of the building and surrounding area. Following several redesigns and meetings with the Conservation Officer, a scheme was agreed that was acceptable to both parties and full planning permission was granted.
