Contract Administration & Project Monitoring

JP Bedfords were appointed to manage the reinstatement of a major bar, restaurant, and nightclub complex in Maidstone following an extensive fire that completely destroyed the roof and upper floors. The main building is a two-storey Victorian property linked to adjoining Grade II Listed buildings, which also form part of the entertainment complex. The fire originated in the listed building and rapidly spread to the upper floors and rear nightclub area, with extinguishment water and falling debris affecting all parts of the site.
Vehicular access to the front of the property was extremely limited, and demolition from the street would have required closing the main road. To reduce disruption and improve efficiency, it was agreed to demolish a rear building owned by the client, creating a compound and access from the rear. This approach shortened the contract period and minimised impact on surrounding businesses.
The works were carefully staged, allowing individual bars and restaurant areas to reopen as soon as they were completed. The project was delivered on time and to the complete satisfaction of all stakeholders, demonstrating JP Bedfords’ expertise in managing complex, sensitive restoration projects in challenging urban environments.
