A fire originating in an electric shower caused extensive fire, smoke and extinguishment water damage to the annexe of a beautifully converted barn in Mersham, Kent, affecting both the original structure and the modern addition.

The owner opted for a cash settlement from their insurers, seizing the opportunity to enhance the property beyond its pre-loss condition, and appointed JP Bedfords to oversee the project from start to finish.

Working closely with the owner’s vision, JP Bedfords coordinated all contractors, guided the design development, and ensured every aspect of the restoration and extension met the highest standards. The project involved opening up the internal layout across both floors, installing a new contemporary kitchen, and constructing a larger rear extension with French doors leading to the expansive grounds. Premium materials, including oak beams to replace those lost in the fire, were carefully sourced and installed with meticulous attention to detail.

The result is a sensitively restored and beautifully extended home that blends modern design with traditional craftsmanship, delivered through the professional project management and coordination of JP Bedfords.
