Contract Administration & Project Monitoring

Appointed to manage the repairs to a fire damaged car repair centre in Stourbridge. The fire caused substantial damage to 75% of the unit.

The scope of repairs included minor repairs to the existing steel portal frames, replacement roof & wall cladding and internal fit out works to include M&E remedial works.

During the strip out phase of the project, it was discovered that one of the main load bearing walls had suffered from lateral movement at the base with horizontal movement just above the slab between 20-30mm. Although this was an inherent issue and predated the fire, the works came to a halt for safety reasons. The Structural Engineers designed a horizontal steel restraint system to the load bearing wall to ensure the wall was stabilised and not at risk of any further movement.

Despite the setback with the inherent structural defects, the project was delivered on time and within budget.
